The panel next to the top of the left light shows a missionary sitting and working on some papers with Papuans. Maynard tells us that this represents the planning and design phase for the reconstruction of the missions after the devestation depicted in the previous panel. The name "Mamba" could refer to this panel as well as the one below; Bishop Strong and Fr Maynard both identify the seated figure as Archdeacon Romney Gill. The message follows the theme of Truth: not only the truth in architecture and construction that is necessary if the work is to stand, but also in the redemption of Truth itself. In the words of Bishop Strong again: "that is the constant work of the Church: rebuilding, reconciliation, restoration." |
