Seminar 8:
Prayer in Islam

This seminar will firstly deal with the general concept of worship and service (ibidah) within which prayer (salat), remembrance of Allah (dhikr) and supplication (du'a) is set. Since remembrance of Allah and supplication are integral to prayer also, these elements will be explored as part of the talk on prayer.

Prayer (salat), both the mandatory five times a day and the voluntary, has a set format and content, dating from the time of Muhammad and as taught by him. It acts as the core around which much personal and spontaneous remembrance and supplication takes place.

The place and times of prayer as well as ritual preparation for it will also be discussed.
