Seminar 8:

Whatever our spiritual and other problems, surely we human beings can deal with them and solve them, provided we put our minds to it and put in a strong and persistent effort? Do we need Christ to make an essential difference to us and for us? Apropos of his "work" as our Saviour, it is difficult to describe it convincingly (as deliverance? as expiation? as the dynamism of love?). But it can be more difficult to account for the way in which the past event of the redemption that He achieved functions here and now. How can Someone who lived 2,000 years ago effect out salvation today? Father Gerald O'Collins tackles these and further questions in his very recent (January 2007) book, Jesus our Redeemer. A Christian approach to salvation (Oxford University Press).
