Australian Soul

Four major factors are changing the way Australians are religious and spiritual — increased religious diversity, the revitalisation of religion, the changing social location of religion and the shift from the rational to the experiential as basic touchstones of authority.

These changes are producing a very different context for the conduct of spirituality and the production of religious goods and services.

Conductor Professor Gary Bouma,
who is Professor of Sociology at Monash University, UNESCO Chair in Intercultural and Interreligious Relations — Asia Pacific, and Chair of the Standing Committee on Ethics in Research involving Humans. Gary is also an Associate Priest at St John's Anglican Church, East Malvern. He is the author of over 20 books, including Australian Soul: Religion and Spirituality in the Twenty-First Century.
