The Eye of God

The Eye of God: Nicholas of Cusa and the IPCC Report

'I am because you [God] watch me.' God's creative and loving attention to the world lies at the heart of a little book called The Vision of God written by Nicholas of Cusa, a German mystic and Cardinal, in 1453. From the moment it first appeared, the work established itself as a classic guide to Christian life and prayer. Nicholas is interested in helping us to experience God, not simply to believe in God or believe things about God. I think this experiential (or mystical) theology can be highly relevant to our circumstances today. The latest IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Report has just been released. It paints a disturbing picture of the implications of climate change for the Earth and all her creatures. In this talk I want to explore what Nicholas of Cusa can offer us as we try to respond to the huge challenges of our time.

Speaker	The Rev'd Dr Graeme Garrett Dr Garrett is an Anglican priest and theologian. He was on the staff of St Mark's National Theological Centre for more than two decades and was also the editor of St Mark's Review. He is the Editor of Into the world you love: Encountering God in Everyday life and the author of many books including, God Matters: Conversations in Theology and Dodging Angels on Saturday.
