Parish Council timely story - and some implications

Yes, Zoom works to maintain existing relationships very well, I think. It is less good at establishing relationships. Since we already know each other, it serves us well.

Thanks Pete, I think we should discuss what our practice going forward should be about Parish Council. I think one reason zoom works is that we had a number of f2f before we went zoom. We might alternate in the future.

There are benefits from online for business operations generally, not just retail.

During lockdown, I have found that 2D online generally entails significantly greater efficiency and amenity compared with 3D online. Both efficiency and amenity gains flow from being able to choose location, usually one's home, with reduced transport time and greater personal comfort.

In practice, 2D also leads to more efficient operations. Our last Parish Council demonstrated this through a productive discussion on a range of detailed issues, finishing at 8.45 pm without leaving any business unfinished.

Over the past couple of months, I have identified a handful of activities where I find 3D to be necessary:

  *   Real presence Eucharist
  *   Life performance
  *   Table fellowship
  *   Very cosy tete-a-tetes
  *   Travel
  *   Physical contact
Parish Council monthly meetings are primarily business meetings and so are none of these and best undertaken in 2D.

Further to our brief discussion last night, here's a story in today's Age about moving on-line and downsizing. Tough times
