Vicar's Musings for the Third Sunday in Advent16 December, 2012 Temperatures in the mid-thirties didn't stop parishioners from St Peter's Eastern Hill turning up at St Peter's Fawkner for a working bee last weekend. We cut down trees — actually that should read Phil Stranieri cut down trees — we demolished an old Wendy House, removed over-grown shrubs, cleared garden beds, and generally gave the property a good tidy up. "All these able-bodied men", exclaimed one elderly Fawkner parishioner, "what a God-send!" On the 27th of July this year, former Assisting Priest at St Peter's Eastern Hill, Fr Philip Bewley, was inducted as Priest-in-charge of St Peter's Fawkner. Around this time, the Vestry of St Peter's Eastern Hill decidied to take on Fawkner as a Partner Parish and find ways of assisting Fr Philip in this challenging placement. Our vestry member, Phil Stranieri, was the driving force behind the success of last weekend's initiative. He brought ladders, gardening tools, power tools, gloves, cold drinks to keep everyone hydrated, and even an air-conditioner for the hall so that there was a place to cool off. Every one pitched in, and by lunchtime two large skips were full and the site was transformed. Thanks to everyone who came and made such a difference. The Rev'd Dr Hugh Kempster |
