Vicar's Musings for Christ the King22 November, 2015 Today we welcome the Rev'd Dr Sarah Bachelard as our guest preacher at the 10am combined parish High Mass for Christ the King. Dr Bachelard lives in Canberra, where she teaches in the areas of theology, ethics and spirituality at Charles Sturt University and is an honorary research fellow at the Australian Catholic University. She has served as director-in-residence of the John Main Centre for Meditation and Inter-faith Dialogue at Georgetown University, and was a keynote speaker at the John Main Seminar in Montreal in 2007. Among numerous publications, Dr Bachelard is author of Experiencing God in a Time of Crisis (Convivium, 2012) and Resurrection and Moral Imagination (Ashgate, 2014). As well as her academic pursuits, Dr Bachelard is the leader of Benedictus, an ecumenical Christian community with a practice of silent contemplative prayer at its heart ((benedictus.com.au). Benedictus is part of the movement of contemplative renewal which is emerging through such global networks as the World Community for Christian Meditation, Contemplative Outreach and others. As well as the weekly worship service, Benedictus hosts quiet days, reflection and discussion series, and small groups for formation in contemplative action. Benedictus featured recently on "The Spirit of Things" (Click for this program...). We are truly blessed to have Dr Bachelard with us at St Peter's this weekend. After the 10am Mass all are welcome to share in a light lunch in the Parish Hall. The Annual Meeting will then start at 12noon. The Rev'd Dr Hugh Kempster |
