In this photograph, the recently installed double-sided cantor's lectern can just be seen as a dark mass standing in the middle of the chancel close to the high altar its original position before it was moved during Maynard's alterations to the church. This remarkable work was completed in 1918 by the distinguished German-born woodcarver and cabinet maker, Robert Prenzell. The church is decorated extravagantly with flowers, perhaps from the garden of the Hughes' Aspendale property, 'Segroyt'. Hughes, a keen gardener, was known to come up to the city laden with armfuls of freshly grown blooms for the church. |
