Altar in the Lady Chapel

Altar in the Lady Chapel

The Lady Chapel was initiated by Canon Hughes in the year before his retirement (1926) but its present form is largely the work of Father Maynard. The altar and reredos were made by a local cabinet maker between 1926 and 1930, and are decorated with Arundel Society reproductions of Fra Angelico angels and saints. The Lady Chapel also houses other works not visible in this view: a statue of Our Lady of Walsingham by Leopoldine Mimovich, a set of Stations of the Cross by Andor Meszaros (small format) and a medallion of Father Maynard, also by Meszaros. A pair of angels carved by Ola Cohn flank the entrance to the chapel.
