Paschal Candle and Pulpit Crucifix

Paschal Candle and Pulpit Crucifix

The Paschal Candle is placed on a high stand in the front of the sanctuary for the easter period and is lit for all services. Behind the candle we can see the pulpit crucifix. This was carved in 1929 by the Swiss sculptor, Emil Thoman, and placed on the wall behind the pulpit by Canon Maynard. Maynard said of this work: "It is a worthy presentation of Christ in His self-oblation. What preacher would not be satisfied to know that, even if the sermon might be poor, the people had something worth-while to attend to?"
