Seminar 8:
|
This seminar will concentrate on the shifts evident in the Blake Prize, the major prize offered for religious art in Australia. Founded in 1945, over the years since then it has evolved from having an emphasis on Christianity to a more diffuse concern with spirituality as understood also to encompass Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and New Age. The art works submitted parallel in style the major characteristics of Australian art development from narrative and figurative to abstraction and back again to a new concern with figuration.
