Seminar 10:

If life is a journey, and the spiritual life is a pilgrimage, what's it like to be a solo female traveller? There are many biblical and extra-biblical stories of heroic male journeys, but in the tradition most of the women stayed at home or trailed along with the baggage. Today, though, many women at different life stages are travelling in our own right, both literally and spiritually. We may need different maps, alternative ways of finding companions, and special strategies for knowing where "home" is either behind or ahead of us. Elizabeth Smith has been travelling solo, literally and metaphorically, for quite a while, and will explore what might go into the Christian spiritual edition of a "Lonely Planet" guide for women.
