Frederick Wilkinson, who died in England in 1890, was the master-in-equity, and thus another one of the legal profession in the congregation; he was also a longstanding churchwarden. This view, rather like another watercolour of the same period by Charles Norton, shows the church in isolation, compared with the Strafford engraving, which places it in the context of the expanding commercial area. The bush, which the music director Joseph Summers recalled as the original setting for the church, is conspicuous in this picture. |
