Seminar 11:
St Peter's Icon School
Comes of Age

From a very modest beginning, (Bishop Bayton giving instruction to an individual in the kitchen of the vicarage), the Icon School has grown and witnessed continuous life for twenty-one years. The School, and the increasing appearance of icons in Anglican churches over the second half of the twentieth century, reflect both a Western fascination with Eastern Christian spirituality, and for Australians, the presence of a large post-war Orthodox diaspora.

To celebrate the School's life, Professor Joan Barclay-Lloyd will present an illustrated lecture 'Byzantine Influence in the West', in which she will examine some of the evidences of the influence of Byzantine art in Italy during the Middle Ages.

The lecture will be followed by a celebration party for the birthday of the Icon School. The School will also display some of the work created by members.
