Seminar 10:
The Gnostics and the Da Vinci Code

For the best part of 2004 Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code topped best-seller lists in England, the U.S.A. and Australia. Its theme is a Gnostic strand within Christianity and many people seem to have been captivated by the world into which this opens.

The response has been far more than a response to a work of fiction. For some it has been felt as an exciting liberation.

Is Gnosticism liberating and exciting and why did Orthodox Christianity reject it?
