In the 'spirit of the age', older people are often considered expendable, particularly when they become physically and mentally frail and/or totally dependent on others. How may we explore more deeply what it means to 'age in the Spirit'? Rosalie's presentation will promote discussion on the theological aspects of ageing, and the associated pastoral care of older people, inside and outside the gathered church. Using case studies to illustrate, a particular focus will be on the person who appears to lack the capacity for engagement in the pastoral encounter.

Associate Professor Rosalie Hudson is a consultant/nurse educator in aged care, palliative care, dementia care, pastoral care and ethics. She has 12 years experience as director of nursing/manager of a nursing home and hospice. She has published widely in nursing, pastoral and theological texts, teaches in several university programs and chairs the Human Research Ethics Committee of the MCD University of Divinity. Rosalie is an experienced conference speaker within Australia and overseas. She worships regularly at 'Mark the Evangelist' Uniting Church in North Melbourne.
